The Annual Carers Conference at Dillington House, Ilminster on 25th July 2011

After many months of meetings, planning and preparation, this years Carers Conference was once again a fantastic day out for all concerned.   The number of carers attending almost reached 100 this time which was fantastic.  Even the sun shone all day to make it perfect!Dillington House was once again our venue and was enjoyed by everyone.

Who could not enjoy the wonderful setting and enjoy the splendid grounds, which the carers could wander and explore.

Staff at Dillington House and The Carers Assessment team were on hand to answer any questions the carers may have had and the Carers Assessment Team joined them in the fun workshops which were planned.

The highlight of the day was most definately a visit by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne.  As President of the Royal Trust for Carers it gave the carers a real boost.  HRH took the time to shake hands and talk to many of the carers who attended and was interested in different things the carers were involved in.  Princess Anne also visited a Craft workshop to see carers finishing off making cards which they could take home with them.

Various workshops were arranged in the morning prior to HRH's visit for the carers to attend.  These included Craft, Creative Writing, Music Therapy, Line dancing and a Soul walk.  Freetime was also available for the carers to wander around the grounds or just sit and relax and talk to other carers.

A Posy was presented at the end of the Royal visit by a young carer, 12 year old  Johsua Smith.   Johsua was accompanied by his mother.  HRH arrived at 1pm by helicopter and left at 2.15pm by car, waved off by all the carers.

Photos which were taken on the day are available to view on the photo page.
