  Sitting Service

The sitting service allows carers to take a break whilst the cared-for person remains in their home with a trained person who will look after them. A session can be from 2 to 8 hours. The service is available from 8.00am to 11.00pm, 7 days a week. These services are provided by registered agencies whose staff have received training to ensure that they can provide the appropriate level of care in your absence. A sitter provides the companionship, support, personal care and assistance which would normally be provided by their carer. This might include accompanying the person on a visit or to an appointment, short walks, conversation, reading, games and personal care as required during the break. Examples of activities include:-

  • Trips to watch bowls or cricket matches
Visits to the cinema or library
  • Games of chess, draughts or cards.

Any costs associated with the trips/visits will be recharged to you.  You will be responsible for any entry of admission costs incurred and also any mileage costs.  These are currently charged at 30 pence per mile.See Somerset County Council web site for more information and eligibility or contact your CAW or CSW Print this page
